Dividend Income - December & Full Year 2019

This comes a bit late, but Happy New Year 2020! The year 2019 is now officially over and out, but let's take a look back how it actually went. Every year the last month is traditionally a big one for many dividend investors, and I'm no exception. In December 2018 I was able to collect $300.05 in the form of dividends. Once again, trying to improve from there. I had exactly the same payers now than a year ago. But almost in every position there are now more shares, and almost all companies raised their dividend during 2019. So, this should be a good one. To achieve my yearly goal of $5,000 I needed approximately $450 from this December. In total 17 companies paid dividend to me this month. Here is the comparison table of December 2018 and 2019 dividends:

TOTAL
$300.05$376.15

All right, so the total this December was $376.15. This means 25,4% increase year-over-year. My target is to register at least 25% growth every month (except April months). OK, that wasn't one of my biggest increases, but still managed to climb over 25%.

Good progress at MMM, ADM, CU.TO, LMT, UNA.AS thanks to dividend raises and additional shares bought. Here are my dividends in a graph:
Total dividends for the year: $4,926.25. This is 22,3% increase from last year. My goal for this year: $5,000. This would mean 24,1% increase to 2018's income. So, goal missed by $73.75 or 1,5%. That was close! I'm not unhappy about the result. Growth stayed at a good level throughout the year, and over $4,900 is a healthy amount of "free" money.

OK, so here are the final columns from last six years. Going in right direction, I think. In dollars, the step from 2018 to 2019 is the biggest so far. But now the eyes will turn into new year and coming months. All these companies, except KO, should pay dividend again in March 2020. Before next ex-dividend date I'm currently looking to buy additional shares at ADM, CU.TO, PNW and UNA.AS. These I would say are sure things, but I will be looking others in this group as well.

Please note that I don't make any currency conversions here. I report dividends as they appear in their own currency. This time CU.TO and ENB.TO were paid in CAD. UNA.AS in EUR, and the rest in USD. Additionally all numbers are before taxes. This prevents currency fluctuations and tax hassles from affecting my progress.

Thanks for reading. Dividend Income page has been updated to include December dividends.

Disclosure: Long MMM, AMGN, ADM, CU.TO, KO, EMR, ENB.TO, ES, GILD, JNJ, LMT, ORI, PNW, O, TGT, UNA.AS

    1. Onhan se niinkin. Ite tykkään tästä tyylistä, mutta tärkeintä varmaan on johdonmukaisuus ja vertailukelpoisuus.

  2. Very close to $5K, DS. Given that, I'm assuming you meant $6K for your 2020 dividend goal? Otherwise, I would bet you reach $5K without too much trouble.
You show some nice YoY growth from many companies this month. Keep up the outstanding efforts and best of luck in 2020.

    1. Thanks Engineering. Yeah 5K this year will be a walk in a park. 6K on the other hand is something else, since some of my Nordic companies are going to cut distributions.
Anyways, thanks and good luck to you in 2020!

    1. Thanks Wizard. YoY gain was decent. Next December I should be comfortably above 400.
